Go Emo Rangers!

Actor | Presenter

At sixteen years old I didn’t think much of it when I was asked to grow out my hair a bit and be in ‘Emo Rangers’, two years later I thought a little more of it when MTV News in New York done an article on us, Panic at the Disco and Zane Lowe appeared in our newest episode and we were featured on the front page of MySpace (it was big back then, remember?) and The Times’ T2 supplement as well as featured in countless other magazines and spreads.

Emo Rangers

The brief was to act badly, to be British, and above all, look emo.  The show was a spoof on kids television with a music twist.  Ten million hits later, MTV picked up the series in 2006 and it aired on MTV2.  Over the next three years I was interviewed on MTV sofa show FYI, presented a short documentary on emo for MTV, presented MTV’s ‘Top Emo Hotties’ Halloween evening special and we were filming a second series as well as translating the first to Spanish for our Mexican fans.

Experience

The experience I gained during the four years of filming two series of Emo Rangers and a tonne of spin-off ‘specials’ has been invaluable.  It has meant that before beginning my time at Ravensbourne I’ve spent countless hours working closely with an accomplished director, sitting in on editing sessions and absorbing knowledge of the general practices of producing a series for television and viral marketing techniques.

My eagerness to learn from my time on the project meant I spent a lot time observing every major process of producing the show, so when I came to Ravensbourne I felt I somewhat already knew what to expect.

You can see the series 2 mini-episodes on my YouTube.

We filmed a number of specials – most of the experience I gained through these shows was presenting, though I again gained invaluable experience observing and being involved with the production process also.
